Let’s take a look at some of the themes in the Mass Readings for the 26th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Ezekiel 18:25-28
When a person turns away from virtue to commit iniquity, it leads to death.
When a person turns away from wickedness and does what is right and just, it leads to life.
Psalm – 25:4-9
“Remember your mercies, O Lord.”
God makes known to us the path of life, showing sinners the way and leading the humble to justice.
2nd Reading – Philippians 2:1-11
We are urged to have the same attitude as Christ, who emptied himself and offered his life.
Because of his sacrifice, every knee shall bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Gospel – Matthew 21:28-32
Jesus offers a parable about a man who has two sons who say and do different things when asked.
The Lord then points out that it is our actions (especially repentance) that reveal our relationship to God and one another.
