On this Feast of St. Mark the evangelist we are reminded that all of us are called to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ – by our words, actions and example – so that others can see how the Lord brings power and joy to our lives.
How can we share our faith with those around us? Some simple and practical considerations include service, invitation, technology and word of mouth…and perhaps one of these will speak to our hearts today as we proclaim the Good News to those we meet.
Today the Church honors St. Luke, the Evangelist who wrote his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. A possible companion of St. Paul, Luke shows us that being a disciple provides daily opportunities in words and actions to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
On this feast of St. Mark we hear the command of the Risen Lord to the Eleven: they are to go out into the world and proclaim the Gospel. May these words inspire us today to share our faith with the people God has placed in our lives.
As an apostle, St. John was filled with the Holy Spirit and sent by Jesus; as an evangelist, his writings have inspired generations of Christians with the Good News of the Gospel. We can look to John for an example: living our faith in the world today as we testify to the light of Jesus Christ.
In the Gospel of Mark the Lord says, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” As we celebrate the Feast of St. Mark today, may our lives offer a living witness to the Good News as we share our faith with those around us.
