Let’s take a look at some of the themes in the readings for the 4th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13
Seek the Lord in justice and humility, observing the Lord’s laws.
The Lord will preserve a remnant who will remain faithful to God.
Psalm – 146:6-10
“Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!”
The Lord protects those in need, bringing healing, comfort, and hope.
2nd Reading – 1st Corinthians 1:26-31
God works through the weak and despised to shame the strong.
We boast only in God, who sustains us through Jesus Christ.
Gospel – Matthew 5:1-12a
The Beatitudes have given comfort and consolation to countless people.
This is the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, a source of the great teaching of Jesus.

Mass Readings – Tuesday of the 12th Week of the Year
The Gospel of Matthew today reveals three nuggets of wisdom that the Lord offers in the Sermon on the Mount:
Do not waste or squander the gifts of life and faith
Be fair and just with one another
Work hard to seek God above all else
The teaching is easy to understand. The hard part? Putting it into practice every day!
