Study, Pray, Serve: 4th Sunday of the Year

Let’s take a look at some of the themes in the readings for the 4th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13

  • Seek the Lord in justice and humility, observing the Lord’s laws.
  • The Lord will preserve a remnant who will remain faithful to God.

Psalm – 146:6-10

  • “Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!”
  • The Lord protects those in need, bringing healing, comfort, and hope.

2nd Reading – 1st Corinthians 1:26-31

  • God works through the weak and despised to shame the strong.
  • We boast only in God, who sustains us through Jesus Christ.

Gospel – Matthew 5:1-12a

  • The Beatitudes have given comfort and consolation to countless people.
  • This is the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, a source of the great teaching of Jesus.
