As disciples of Jesus Christ, there are tough messages that sometimes we are called to deliver, and sometimes we are called to receive. Through honesty, humility and love we open our hearts to encounter the transforming power of the Lord’s grace in these difficult moments.
On this feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we recognize that she is exalted through God’s grace because of her humble heart. May her example inspire us to cultivate the virtue of humility as we follow her Son.
Prayer is crucial for our spiritual life, yet we discover in the Gospel today the power that results when our prayers are grounded in the humility that recognizes our own weaknesses and sins. May we fervently call upon the Lord in our daily prayer, asking the one who knows us through-and-through for what we need.
Luke’s Gospel reminds us that before we confess someone else’s sins we might want to start with our own. The analogy about what is caught in our eye can help us from becoming blinded by our own pride.
