1st Reading – Jeremiah 23:1-6
Woe to the shepherds that mislead and scatter the flock. God will appoint shepherds who will protect the flock, and none shall be missing. Psalm – 23:1-6
“The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.” God guides, protects and leads us to the Lord’s house, our final dwelling. 2nd Reading – Ephesians 2:13-18
Christ is our lasting peace, reconciling us to God through the Cross. We are no longer far off, but have now drawn near through the blood of Christ. Gospel – Mark 6:30-34
Having reported all that they have done, Christ invites the apostles to come away and rest. Crowds follow Jesus, and he takes pity on them…for they were like sheep without a shepherd. Mass Readings – 16th Sunday of the Year

Here are some of the themes that surface in the readings for this 15th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Amos 7:12-15
Amos is rejected by Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, to be a prophet far away in the land of Judah. Amos admits that he was a shepherd; it was God who called him to prophesy to the people of Israel. Psalm – 85:9-14
“Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.” God is the source of blessings and graces…and we will hear what God proclaims. 2nd Reading – Ephesians 1:3-14
This hymn of praise gives glory to Christ, the source of our redemption. We have been chosen by the Lord to hear his word of truth, the gospel of salvation. Gospel – Mark 5:7-13
Jesus summons the Twelve apostles and sends them out two by two with a sense of urgency and trust. They are empowered to continue his earthly ministry: preaching repentance, driving out demons, and curing the sick. Mass Readings – 15th Sunday of the Year
