Let’s take a look at some of the themes in the readings for the 4th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13
Seek the Lord in justice and humility, observing the Lord’s laws.
The Lord will preserve a remnant who will remain faithful to God.
Psalm – 146:6-10
“Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!”
The Lord protects those in need, bringing healing, comfort, and hope.
2nd Reading – 1st Corinthians 1:26-31
God works through the weak and despised to shame the strong.
We boast only in God, who sustains us through Jesus Christ.
Gospel – Matthew 5:1-12a
The Beatitudes have given comfort and consolation to countless people.
This is the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, a source of the great teaching of Jesus.
