Following the call of Levi, Jesus responds to the scribes and Pharisees, saying that he has come to call sinners to repentance. (Hint: that means all of us.) #222

Seven Founders of the Servite Order, pray for us!

During the call of Levi – who leaves his post and follows Jesus – we hear the encouraging words of the Lord, who “did not come to call the righteous but sinners.” May we recognize our need for ongoing conversion as we turn away from sin and follow Christ.

The call of Levi offers us an example of how Christ invites us (wounded, broken and sinful) to follow Him. As Levi accepted this call and invited others to meet Jesus, may we take heart as the Lord calls us today.

While spending time with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus’ response to the scribes and pharisees offers us hope. The Lord’s willingness to bring healing and forgiveness to those in need reveals Christ’s longing for our redemption as well. May we follow the example of Levi and respond to the Lord’s call.

Mass Readings – The Solemnity of Sts. Peter & Paul
These two great figures in the Church had their share of spectacular successes and failures. They sinned, yet with God’s grace they kept their eyes fixed on Jesus – and they are wonderful examples for us today. May we embrace our faith, return to Christ when we have sinned, and seek the Lord above all else!
