The Lord announces that he fulfills the Law and the Prophets, emphasizing that his commandments are essential for the Kingdom of Heaven. May we heed his teaching and allow his grace to transform us…from the inside out!
After the resurrection Jesus appears to the Apostles and explains how he has fulfilled the prophecies within the Sacred Scriptures; that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer, die and be raised on the third day. He concludes this passage with a powerful exhortation, “You are witnesses of these things.” Our faith was built on the witness of others, and our lived example of faith helps others encounter the Risen Lord today.
Jesus tells the disciples that he has come to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. The Good News is that God is with us! Christ’s saving death and resurrection, followed by the gift of the Holy Spirit, means that we are not alone. May we turn to the Lord every day for the grace and strength we need.
The Gospel today reminds us that as followers of Jesus Christ we look not only to the Lord’s teaching, but also to the salvation history that came before him. As the fulfillment of the Old Testament we can draw strength from the ways that God worked in life of the people of Israel, and we can apply these lessons to our world today.
