Let’s explore the themes we find in the Mass readings for the 1st Sunday of Advent.
1st Reading – Jeremiah 33:14-16
God will fulfill the promise made to the house of Israel and Judah.
The Lord will raise up for David a just shoot who will do what is right and just.
Psalm – 25:4-5,8-10,14
“To you, O Lord, I lift my soul.”
With kindness and constancy the Lord guides and teaches us the way.
2nd Reading – 1st Thessalonians 3:12-4:2
We increase and abound in love for one another before God.
We conduct ourselves in a worthy manner that reflects the instructions we have received.
Gospel – Luke 21:25-28,34-36
There will be many signs on the earth and in the heavens before the Son of Man comes.
We are called to remain awake and vigilant, so that we are not caught by surprise.

Let’s examine some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe.
1st Reading – Daniel 7:13-14
Daniel has a vision where he sees the Son of man presented before the Ancient One.
The Son of man receives dominion, glory, and kingship that is everlasting.
Psalm – 93:1-2,5
“The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.”
The Lord’s kingship and throne are everlasting; he is robed in splendor and holiness.
2nd Reading – Revelation 1:5-8
Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, is the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth.
He is the Alpha and Omega, who comes in glory and power.
Gospel – John 18:33b-37
When asked if he is a king by Pilate, Jesus says that his kingdom does not belong to this world.
The Lord says that he has come to testify to the truth for those who will listen to his voice.
