Here are some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 5th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Isaiah 6:1-2a,3-8
The prophet has a vision of the seraphim glorifying God saying, “Holy, holy, holy!”
The prophet then declares “Here I am!” when the Lord calls for someone to send.
Psalm – 138:1-5,7-8
“In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord.”
We call upon the Lord, who builds up strength within us.
2nd Reading – 1st Corinthians 15:1-11
Paul recaps key elements about Jesus, inviting the people to hold fast to this knowledge.
Through the grace of God, Paul has been sustained to carry out his work.
Gospel – Luke 5:1-11
Jesus directs Peter to put out into deep water, and the nets bring in an immense catch of fish.
Afterwards, Jesus tells Peter, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”
