As followers of Jesus Christ we are called to cultivate a fruitful harvest in our hearts. This not only means fostering the Fruits of the Spirit in our lives, but it also requires our willingness to be pruned of the spiritual vices and behaviors that keep us from God and one another.
The fruitfulness of our lives offers a useful indication regarding the state of our souls. Whether its our heart or another’s, may the Fruits of the Spirit help guide us on our journey of faith.
This presentation was given at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Solon Springs on March 6, 2017. It is the second part of a presentation on discipleship, focusing on living the Good News and sharing it with others. (36 Minutes)
And if you missed the first part of this presentation on discipleship, which focused on repentance and ongoing conversion, you can pick it up below. (45 Minutes)
Jesus teaches in the Gospel today that all who do God’s will are part of his family. Through prayer, Scripture, sacraments and fellowship we become spiritually fruitful as we offer our lives to the Lord.
Repentance provides us with the opportunity to remove what is not worthy of heaven and replace it with graces that are fruitful and life-giving. May this Advent empower us to turn away from sin and embrace a life in Christ.
We know the human heart by the fruitfulness of the words and actions of a human life. May these practical words of Jesus help us to evaluate our lives and interact with others.
Like branches on a grape vine, we are dependent on Jesus for grace and strength. Yet when we are connected to the Lord we are able to bear fruit that touches hearts and changes lives. This homily was given on May 3, 2015 at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, WI.
“Christian in a Changing World” is a 3 night Parish Mission that was offered February 22-24, 2015 at Cathedral of Christ the King. The presentations help us understand how we walk our spiritual journey through the ups and downs of life.
The first presentation focuses on using the “Fruits of the Spirit” as a guide to keep us on track in different aspects of our lives:
WHAT do we do with the “stuff” in our lives?
WHO are the people in our lives and how do we relate?
HOW do we behave?
WHY do we do what we do?
The purpose is to find our way – making sure that we are headed in the direction that leads us closer to Christ and one another. It’s about keeping focused on the path that heads toward Heaven, and each of these aspects can give us clear signs that either confirm or challenge our direction.
