This is the second part of a six-week series about how we gently and lovingly share our faith with others. In this presentation Fr. Andrew speaks about how we cultivate a vibrant and personal spiritual life.
The teaching of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting is set within the context of a humble heart that does not seek human praise. When we do this, these spiritual disciplines take on extraordinary power to transform our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Both the Gospel of Matthew and the prophet Isaiah refer to fasting. When this ancient spiritual practice is linked with spiritual fruitfulness, we grow closer to the Lord and one another.
Jesus offers a helpful insight about the purpose and nature of fasting, reminding us that this powerful, spiritual practice is a tool that is meant to draw us closer to the Lord.
Ash Wednesday offers us an opportunity to “turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel” as we repent of our sins and embrace time-tested spiritual practices. May this housecleaning of our hearts help us to renew our faith and draw us closer to the Lord and one another.
We have some time to reflect on what we will do to enter into the spiritual powerhouse of Lent. This presentation offers some practical and classic concepts that can be applied to the unique circumstances of our lives. May we call upon Heaven for help as we prepare for this season of grace!
