
Let’s examine some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe.
1st Reading – Daniel 7:13-14
- Daniel has a vision where he sees the Son of man presented before the Ancient One.
- The Son of man receives dominion, glory, and kingship that is everlasting.
Psalm – 93:1-2,5
- “The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.”
- The Lord’s kingship and throne are everlasting; he is robed in splendor and holiness.
2nd Reading – Revelation 1:5-8
- Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, is the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth.
- He is the Alpha and Omega, who comes in glory and power.
Gospel – John 18:33b-37
- When asked if he is a king by Pilate, Jesus says that his kingdom does not belong to this world.
- The Lord says that he has come to testify to the truth for those who will listen to his voice.
