Let’s examine some of the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 28th Week of the Year.

1st Reading – Wisdom 7:7-11

  • Wisdom is preferred to wealth and power.
  • Even health and beauty are nothing compared to the blessings of wisdom.

Psalm – 90:12-17

  • “Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy.”
  • We seek God’s kindness and prosperity in our moments of affliction.

2nd Reading – Hebrews 4:12-13

  • The word of God is living and effective, penetrating even soul and spirit, and discerning the thoughts of the heart.
  • Nothing is concealed from God, before whom we must all render an account.

Gospel – Mark 10:17-30

  • A man who has observed all the commandments is sad because he was unwilling to part with his possessions.
  • Jesus then speaks about how hard it is for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
