Grumbling in the desert, the children of Israel are heard by God. The result? Manna and quail nourish and sustain the people for the journey. May this “bread from heaven” help us to cherish the Body and Blood of Christ – the Bread from Heaven of our Holy Communion – as we regularly come to the altar to receive the Lord for the strength we need.

On this feast of St. James, the Apostle, we discover that we hold the treasure of our Christian faith in the “earthen vessel” of our human limitations. As we acknowledge our sins and embrace God’s grace, we offer our lives as a worthy sacrifice that draws us closer to the Lord and one another.
The Lord offers a parable that challenges complacency and invites us to a continuing conversion of heart. Knowing that there will be a Final Judgment, may we take the gift of today to turn away from sin and embrace the gift of grace that comes from Jesus Christ.
God gives specific Passover preparations to Moses, directing how the people are to remember their liberation from slavery. This Passover takes on enormous significance when it is celebrated by Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God!
With the birth of Moses we begin a journey in a crucial part of salvation history. As we walk with the people of Israel, we discover that their challenges are often reflected in our lives. May we recognize the obstacles in our hearts today, and call upon the Lord for the help we need.
