Let’s explore the themes we find in the Mass readings for the 10th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Genesis 3:9-15
Adam and Eve hide from God after they have eaten the fruit of the forbidden tree.
When confronted by God, the serpent is banished and forced to crawl on its belly.
Psalm – 130:1-8
“With the Lord there is mercy, and fullness of redemption.”
From the depths we cry to God who offers kindness and forgiveness.
2nd Reading – 2nd Corinthians 4:13-5:1
We believe that the one who raised Jesus from the dead will also raise us.
We are not discouraged; rather, as our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed.
Gospel – Mark 3:20-35
In response to the scribes, Jesus teaches that by his divine power he drives out demons.
When his family tries to meet him, the Lord says that whoever does the will of God is part of his family.
