Study, Pray, Serve: 18th Sunday of the Year

Let’s examine some of the themes in the readings for Mass on this 18th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Isaiah 55:1-3

• The Lord invites all who are hungry or thirsty to come freely and without cost.
• The benefits assured to David are now renewed for all with an everlasting covenant.

Psalm – 145:8-9,15-18

• “The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs.”
• We look hopefully to the Lord who is gracious, merciful, compassionate, and just.

2nd Reading – Romans 8:35,37-39

• Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ!
• We conquer overwhelmingly through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gospel – Matthew 14:13-21

• Jesus responds with pity upon the vast crowd, and he cures their sick.
• He then performs a feeding miracle after blessing five loaves and two fish.
