The death of John the Baptist offers a stark reminder that following Jesus will come with a cost as we face evil in this life with our faith in Christ that will guide and sustain us to eternal life.

    I’ve been thinking about this homily for some time now. We are, indeed, comforted with Jesus’ promise of eternal life. However, the kingdom of God is here now and also obligates us to stand for justice against evil rulers—the Herods—of today, not just grin and bear it until we die.
