Here are some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 12th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Job 18:1,8-11

  • From the storm God addresses Job, reminding him that it was the Lord’s might that set the limits and boundaries of all creation.

Psalm – 107:23-26,28-31

  • “Give thanks to the Lord, his love is everlasting.”
  • In the midst of the power and might of nature, the people call upon the Lord and give him glory and praise.

2nd Reading – 2nd Corinthians 5:14-17

  • Impelled by the love of Christ, we no longer live for ourselves but for the one who died and rose for us.
  • Those who are in Christ are now a new creation, and they no longer live according to the flesh.

Gospel – Mark 4:35-41

  • Jesus is with the disciples in a boat when a violent storm comes upon them.
  • Upon awakening, the Lord calms the storm with a word and chastises the disciples for their lack of faith.

Thank you Father for this. It allows me to remember that God, no matter what form controls everything from our oxygen to our waters. This gives me much to think about.
