Study, Pray, Serve: 29th Sunday of the Year

Let’s explore some of the themes in the readings for the 29th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Exodus 17:8-13

  • Moses, supported by Aaron and Hur, prays during a battle.
  • With their physical help and God’s intervention, Israel was victorious.

Psalm – 121:1-8

  • “Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
  • Wherever we are in the world, God guards and guides us.

2nd Reading – 2nd Timothy 3:14-4:2

  • Persist and remain faithful to what we have learned and believed.
  • All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for daily life.

Gospel – Luke 18:1-8

  • The dishonest judge responds to the persistent efforts of a widow.
  • God will respond to our needs, but will the Son of Man find faith on earth?
