Here are some of the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 28th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – 2nd Kings 5:14-17

• At the word of Elisha, Naaman plunges himself seven times in the Jordan river.
• Cleansed of his leprosy, Naaman desires to give a gift to Elisha in gratitude for his healing.

Psalm – 98:1-4

• “The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.”
• We joyfully sing, praising God for his justice, kindness, and faithfulness.

2nd Reading – 2nd Timothy 2:8-13

• We bear our sufferings with the strength of the unchained power of the word of God.
• “If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him.”

Gospel – Luke 17:11-19

• Ten lepers call out to Jesus for mercy, and the Lord heals them all with a word of command.
• One of them, a Samaritan, returns to Jesus to give thanks for his healing.
