Study, Pray, Serve: 29th Sunday of the Year

Let’s examine the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 29th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Exodus 17:8-13

  • Joshua leads the people against Amalekites in battle.
  • From a hilltop, Moses (with the help of Aaron and Hur) raises the staff of God and prays for the Israelites, who are victorious.

Psalm – 121:1-8

  • “Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
  • God, who never slumbers or sleeps, guards us from all evil.

2nd Reading – 2nd Timothy 3:14-4:2

  • We remain faithful to what we have learned and believed about the Lord Jesus.
  • All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, correction, and training.

Gospel – Luke 18:1-8

  • Jesus offers a parable of a widow and a dishonest judge regarding the need to pray without becoming weary.
