John the Baptist offers an example of discipleship in the Gospel today. As the crowds flock to his preaching and baptism of repentance, John consistently redirects their attention toward Jesus. May we do the same in our lives today.
On this feast of St. Andrew, we hear in the Gospel how Jesus calls him and from the Letter to the Romans how God continues to call others to proclaim the Good News in the world. God keeps calling today; are we ready to respond?
As the disciples return praising God for the power they used in the name of Jesus, the Lord reveals this power as the fulfillment of God’s plan for salvation history. Our task today? To continue to let Jesus work through the daily offering of our lives.

Jesus gives power and authority to the disciples to carry on his saving work as they place their trust in him. Following their example we, too, have an opportunity to carry on the mission of the Lord as we offer our lives guided by God’s grace.
The readings all reveal different ways our faith interacts with everyday life. Rather than create a false separation, we have a daily opportunity to live our faith in our normal circumstances…so that when people see us, they see Jesus Christ shining through.
