Let’s review the themes in the Mass readings for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
1st Reading – Malachi 3:1-4
- The Lord is sending his messenger to prepare the way.
- He will purify and refine the sons of Levi, and they will offer sacrifice to the Lord.
Psalm – 24:7-10
- “Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord!”
- We welcome the Lord, strong and mighty, to enter the hearts of all who seek him.
2nd Reading – Hebrews 2:14-18
- Jesus became like us in every way but sin, to free us from the fear of death and the devil.
- Christ was tested by what he suffered, and so he is able to help those who are being tested.
Gospel – Luke 2:22-40
- Mary and Joseph take Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
- In the temple area they meet Simeon and Anna, who give praise to God and bless the child.
