Let’s examine some of the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 28th Week of the Year.
1st Reading – Wisdom 7:7-11
Wisdom is preferred to wealth and power.
Even health and beauty are nothing compared to the blessings of wisdom.
Psalm – 90:12-17
“Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy.”
We seek God’s kindness and prosperity in our moments of affliction.
2nd Reading – Hebrews 4:12-13
The word of God is living and effective, penetrating even soul and spirit, and discerning the thoughts of the heart.
Nothing is concealed from God, before whom we must all render an account.
Gospel – Mark 10:17-30
A man who has observed all the commandments is sad because he was unwilling to part with his possessions.
Jesus then speaks about how hard it is for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
