Let’s review the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 25th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Amos 8:4-7
Amos calls out those who cheat and steal from the poor.
The Lord has sworn that this injustice will never be forgotten.
Psalm – 113:1-2,4-8
“Praise the Lord, who lifts up the poor.”
The Lord, enthroned in heaven, raises up the lowly and seats them with the princes of his own people.
2nd Reading – 1st Timothy 2:1-8
We are exhorted to pray for those in authority, that we might lead a quiet and tranquil life.
The one mediator between God and humanity, Jesus Christ, gave himself as a ransom for all.
Gospel – Luke 16:1-13
Jesus offers a parable to his disciples about a dishonest steward who squandered his master’s property.
The Lord tells us that we cannot serve two masters; we must choose between God and mammon.
