1st Reading – Deuteronomy 26:4-10

  • Moses recalls God’s mighty works that freed the people from slavery in Egypt.
  • Inspired by this memory they now bring forth the firstfruits of their produce to honor the Lord in the Promised Land.

Psalm – 91:1-2,10-15

  • “Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble.”
  • We place our trust in God, who sustains us when we are in distress.

2nd Reading – Romans 10:8-13

  • If we confess with the mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him, we will be saved.
  • This salvation in Christ is available to all, there is no distinction between Jew and Greek.

Gospel – Luke 4:1-13

  • Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, is led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days to be tempted by the devil.
