Here are some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 20th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Proverbs 9:1-6
Wisdom is described as a woman who has built her house and prepared a banquet feast.
All are invited to forsake foolishness and come and eat and drink at her table.
Psalm – 34:2-7
“Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.”
We give praise to God who saves us in our moments of distress.
2nd Reading – Ephesians 5:15-20
This passage offers an exhortation to avoid foolish people and live with wisdom.
We are called to live in the Spirit and give thanks for everything in the name of Jesus.
Gospel – John 6:51-58
The crowd is now quarreling about how Jesus can give his flesh to eat.
The Lord teaches that his flesh gives them life, and it is true food.
The life that Jesus has from the Father will also be given to those who feed on him.
