Let’s review the themes in the Mass readings for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
1st Reading – Malachi 3:1-4
The Lord is sending his messenger to prepare the way.
He will purify and refine the sons of Levi, and they will offer sacrifice to the Lord.
Psalm – 24:7-10
“Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord!”
We welcome the Lord, strong and mighty, to enter the hearts of all who seek him.
2nd Reading – Hebrews 2:14-18
Jesus became like us in every way but sin, to free us from the fear of death and the devil.
Christ was tested by what he suffered, and so he is able to help those who are being tested.
Gospel – Luke 2:22-40
Mary and Joseph take Jesus to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
In the temple area they meet Simeon and Anna, who give praise to God and bless the child.
