Let’s review some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 27th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Habakkuk 1:2-3, 2:2-4

  • The prophet calls out to God for help amid violence, misery and destruction.
  • God responds with a call to faith, for all things will come to fulfillment in the proper time.

Psalm – 95:1-2,6-9

  • “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
  • We come before the Lord with joyful worship and open hearts.

2nd Reading – 2nd Timothy 1:6-8,13-14

  • We stir into flame the gift of God that brings power, love, and self-control.
  • We bear our hardships, trusting in the Lord Jesus and the help of the Holy Spirit.

Gospel – Luke 17:5-10

  • The apostles ask the Lord to increase their faith, and Jesus responds with the example of the mustard seed.
  • Jesus then offers a parable of a servant, reminding us to remain faithful as we serve the Lord.
