Let’s review some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 21st Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Isaiah 66:18-21
- God will gather nations from every language to come and see the glory of the Lord.
- They will gather in Jerusalem, the holy mountain, and bring an offering to God.
Psalm 117:1-2
- “Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.”
- All people will praise the Lord who is steadfast in his kindness and fidelity.
2nd Reading – Hebrews 12:5-7,11-13
- We endure our trials as discipline that comes from the Lord.
- While discipline often includes pain, it strengthens and trains us to carry on.
Gospel – Luke 13:22-30
- When asked if only a few people will be saved, Jesus urges his disciples to strive to enter through the narrow gate.
- The Lord says that people will come from the four corners of the earth and recline at table in the kingdom of God.
