Let’s examine some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 4th Sunday of Easter.

1st Reading – Acts of the Apostles 13:14,43-52

  • Paul and Barnabas preach the Gospel in Antioch in Pisidia, what is today a central and southern region in Turkey.
  • While many Jews accept their preaching, jealousy and abuse break out, so the Apostles turn their attention to the Gentiles and tell them about Jesus.

Psalm – 100:1-3,5

  • “We are his people, the sheep of his flock.”
  • We sing joyfully to the Lord who made us, whose kindness endures forever.

2nd Reading – Revelation 7:9,14b-17

  • John’s vision reveals a countless multitude who stand before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches.
  • John is told that these people have survived great distress, and their robes were made white in the blood of the Lamb.

Gospel – 10:27-30

  • Jesus says that his sheep hear his voice; they know and follow him.
  • The Father has given them to Jesus, and no one can take the sheep from his hand.
