Here are some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 6th Sunday of Easter.

1st Reading – Acts of the Apostles 15:1-2,22-29

  • The question arises if a person has to strictly follow Jewish law in order to follow Jesus and be saved.
  • The apostles and elders gather in Jerusalem and determine that the Gospel can be preached to all people.

Psalm – 67:2-3,5-6,8

  • “O God, let all the nations praise you!”
  • All people rejoice among the nations for the salvation that comes from God.

2nd Reading – Revelation 21:10-14,22-23

  • The heavenly city of Jerusalem is seen in all its gleaming splendor.
  • The city has no need of sun or moon, for the Lamb of God is the lamp that gives it light.

Gospel – John 14:23-29

  • Jesus asks the Father to send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to teach and remind the disciples.
  • The Lord then gives his disciples peace that cannot be found in the world, so that they are not troubled or afraid.
