
Here are some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 6th Sunday of Easter.
1st Reading – Acts of the Apostles 15:1-2,22-29
- The question arises if a person has to strictly follow Jewish law in order to follow Jesus and be saved.
- The apostles and elders gather in Jerusalem and determine that the Gospel can be preached to all people.
Psalm – 67:2-3,5-6,8
- “O God, let all the nations praise you!”
- All people rejoice among the nations for the salvation that comes from God.
2nd Reading – Revelation 21:10-14,22-23
- The heavenly city of Jerusalem is seen in all its gleaming splendor.
- The city has no need of sun or moon, for the Lamb of God is the lamp that gives it light.
Gospel – John 14:23-29
- Jesus asks the Father to send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to teach and remind the disciples.
- The Lord then gives his disciples peace that cannot be found in the world, so that they are not troubled or afraid.
