Let’s review some of the themes that we find in the Mass Readings for the 2nd Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Isaiah 62:1-5
- The prophet proclaims that Jerusalem will be vindicated and glorified.
- The nations will see how God rejoices in the people who were formerly forsaken.
Psalm – 96:1-3,7-10
- “Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.”
- We sing to the Lord, announcing his salvation and giving glory to God.
2nd Reading – 1st Corinthians 12:4-11
- There are different gifts, service, and types of work, but it is the same Spirit and Lord who produces them.
- To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some particular benefit.
Gospel – John 2:1-11
- Jesus is at a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and when the wine runs out the Lord performs a miracle and turns water into wine.
- This is not a normal wine; it is tested by the headwaiter who declares it is the best.
