Here are some of the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 27th Week of the Year.

1st Reading – Genesis 2:18-24

  • God creates all the wild animals and brings them to the man, but none proves to be a suitable partner.
  • God then builds up a woman from the rib that he has taken from the man, who recognizes her as his partner for life.

Psalm – 128:1-6

  • “May the Lord bless us all the days of our lives.”
  • God blesses us through our family and faithful adherence to the Lord’s commands.

2nd Reading – Hebrews 2:9-11

  • Jesus becomes “lower than the angels” to taste death for our salvation.
  • Through his gracious sacrifice, we are welcomed into God’s family of faith.

Gospel – Mark 10:2-16

  • Jesus responds to questions about divorce, and he speaks about the sanctity of marriage.
  • The Lord then welcomes the children to come to him, and he blesses and embraces them.
