
Let’s explore some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 23rd Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Isaiah 35:4-7a
- Say to those whose hearts are frightened: be strong, fear not!
- God comes to the people bringing healing and life to the world.
Psalm – 146:7-10
- “Praise the Lord, my soul!”
- We glorify God who brings hope and healing to those in need, and thwarts the way of the wicked.
2nd Reading – James 2:1-5
- We are charged to show no partiality to others based on wealth or appearance.
- God chooses the poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom.
Gospel – Mark 7:31-37
- A deaf man with a speech impediment is brought before Jesus.
- After the Lord heals the man, the crowds give praise to God.
