
Let’s explore the themes we find in the Mass readings for the 10th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Genesis 3:9-15
- Adam and Eve hide from God after they have eaten the fruit of the forbidden tree.
- When confronted by God, the serpent is banished and forced to crawl on its belly.
Psalm – 130:1-8
- “With the Lord there is mercy, and fullness of redemption.”
- From the depths we cry to God who offers kindness and forgiveness.
2nd Reading – 2nd Corinthians 4:13-5:1
- We believe that the one who raised Jesus from the dead will also raise us.
- We are not discouraged; rather, as our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed.
Gospel – Mark 3:20-35
- In response to the scribes, Jesus teaches that by his divine power he drives out demons.
- When his family tries to meet him, the Lord says that whoever does the will of God is part of his family.
