Here are some of the themes that we see in the readings for the 3rd Sunday of Easter.

1st Reading – Acts of the Apostles 3:13-15,17-19

  • Peter cites salvation history, showing how God has glorified Jesus as the Holy and Righteous One.
  • The people are then called to repent and be converted, so that their sins may be wiped away.

Psalm – 4:2,4,7-9

  • “Lord, let your face shine on us.”
  • We call upon God for strength in times of distress.

2nd Reading – 1st Letter of John 2:1-5a

  • Jesus Christ is the expiation for our sins.
  • When we keep Christ’s word, the love of God is perfected in us.

Gospel – Luke 24:35-48

  • Jesus appears to the disciples, showing them his hands and feet while eating among them.
  • The Lord then opens the minds of the disciples, helping them understand how he has fulfilled the Scriptures through his saving death and resurrection.
