Here are some of the main themes in the Mass readings for the 12th Sunday of the Year.
1st Reading – Jeremiah 20:10-13
- Jeremiah hears the whisperings of those who seek his downfall.
- The prophet puts his hope in the Lord.
Psalm 69:8-10,14,17,33-35
- “Lord, in your great love, answer me.”
- The Psalmist prays for God’s help in times of suffering.
2nd Reading – Romans 5:12-15
- Through the sin of Adam, sin and death entered the world.
- Through the death of Jesus on the cross, the grace of God overflows us all.
Gospel – Matthew 10:26-33
- Christ tells the Twelve to “fear no one” and “do not be afraid.”
- God, who knows even the hairs on our heads, invites us to follow the Lord Jesus with fervent faith.
- Those who acknowledge Jesus before others will be acknowledged by him before God the Father.
