Mass Readings – 30th Sunday of the Year
Our encounter with God’s mercy happens when we do three things:
- Clearly know our sins
- Choose to make a change
- Embrace our relationship with the Lord
When these three take place we can say from our heart: “O God, be merciful to me a sinner.”

Our Liturgies are wonderful!! I would like to see and hear about our concern for the people of Haiti. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ. They are suffering terribly. How are we called upon to help them?

Good post Father, but I have a question for you. Do you believe God’s mercy is conditional on anything that we do/do not do? It is just a question which popped into my head while reading the post.
I keep seeing Jesus on the Cross and that was the greatest mercy of all for all of us. Freely given and freely received.
David said, “From my hidden faults acquit me.” I always took that to mean we do not know every single sin we commit. So if that is the case if I do not “recognize” my sins, but I must in order to receive “mercy” then what does one do? Thank you and God Bless, SR

The mercy is free, apart from our own merit. Our part is to grow in holiness, and as we draw closer to the Lord we uncover more of our hearts that needs to be touched by his grace. The mercy is there; the process of experiencing it is lifelong…until the day we stand before the Son of God and all is made known. Our job: keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.
